Professional wrestling has witnessed many iconic commentators over the years, contributing to the sports global appeal in multiple languages. Today, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of legendary commentator Gnter Zapf at the age of 66.

AEW shared the heartbreaking news on its official Twitter account, paying tribute to Zapfs invaluable contribution to their Germany announce team over the years.

Gnter Zapfs diverse career spanned American football, wrestling commentary, and sports broadcasting. Originally from Germany, Zapf began his career as a football player in Europe before transitioning to wrestling commentary. In 1993, he became one-half of the renowned WWF German commentary duo alongside Carsten Schaefer. Together, they provided commentary for WWF VHS tapes and weekly TV shows across various German networks.
