Caroline Wozniacki's very promising Bad Homburg run ended in the most unfortunate way as the former world No. 1 made a good start against Emma Navarro before suffering a nasty fall and ultimately retiring the match.

This week in Bad Homburg, Wozniacki got her first grass win since 2019 after beating Elina Svitolina in a thriller and she also made the quarterfinal after overcoming Veronika Kudermetova.

Today, Wozniacki also started well against No. 3 seed Emma Navarro. But then, the 33-year-old Dane slipped on the grass while 5-3 up in the first set and looked in evident pain and discomfort.

After receiving a medical timeout and getting her leg and knee checked, Wozniacki resumed the match and closed out the first set. But it didn't look well from that moment as Navarro easily won the second set with a 6-1 scoreline and also started the third set by breaking the 2018 Australian Open champion in the first game.

That's when Wozniacki decided to walk to the net and shake Navarro's hand, who was 4-6 6-1 1-0 up when the retirement came.

However, Wozniacki was still up by a break and leading 5-3 when the unfortunate moment happened. Serving for the first set after the scare, Wozniacki had difficulties closing out the second set but managed to do so after converting her fourth set point.

Through the opening two games of the second set, Wozniacki and Navarro were tied to one game apiece. Then, Navarro went on to win the next six games before the Danish former world No. 1 realized that retiring was probably the best option.

For Wozniacki, the most important thing right in this situation would be avoiding a serious injury and being able to play at Wimbledon next week.
