AEW continues to invest heavily in contracts, and that number keeps growing. Its uncertain how much more Tony Khan will spend, but further expenditures are always possible as new stars hit the open market. Double or Nothing 2024 took place on May 26, 2024, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The event featured major matches, and Khan spent significantly to ensure a packed card.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that tax credit forms were filed in Nevada listing the expenses for the television taping and Double or Nothing pay-per-view show on May 24 and 25. The key figure was $2 million in salaries, covering all talent and workers, with total expenses for the two shows listed at $3,868,200.
Previously, it was noted that AEW Double or Nothing 2024 was barely profitable. Despite high expenses, they managed to turn a profit. Gate revenue was between $694,000 and $900,000 (with conflicting figures), $3 million from PPV, $150,000 from merchandise, and roughly $500,000 from TNT for Collision made the weekend profitable.
AEW Double or Nothing featured top stars, including MJFs return, Mercedes Mone, Will Ospreay, and Kazuchika Okada. These are AEWs latest big-money signings.
Its yet to be seen who Tony Khan will sign next. Whether there is a salary cap in place is unclear, but it seems they might be approaching that limit.
