A truly thrilling finale for the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2024. Australian Cameron Davis wins for the second time in his career at the Detroit Golf Club, but Akshay Bhatia throws it all away with three putts on the green of the seventy-second hole, leaving the tournament lead for the first once throughout the week.
For the Australian it is the second career victory on the PGA Tour, and it always comes on the same course, always in the same tournament.

I wouldn't wish what happened to Akshay on anyone is Davis' first thought, but on this Sunday he completed his redemption, given that in the last three months he had not managed to finish better than 38th place in the sixth start since he had finished 12th at the Masters in April.
The Australian wins the tournament with a total score of -18, a 70 stroke Sunday (-2) and a birdie on the par 5 of the seventeenth which allowed him to catch Bhatia and go towards a more than probable playoff. However, we know that 6pm on Sunday afternoon can always bring surprises.
And the American feels all the pressure on the green, for him comes the first error under two meters, and the first three putts of the whole week which condemn him to second place at -17, after a final round closed in close parity with the par.
Bhatia shares second position with his compatriot Davis Thompson (68), the Australian Min Woo Lee (69), and the Englishman Aaron Rai (72), both authors of a very consistent week which always saw them protagonists in the upper areas of ranking.
Cameron Young was also a victim of the tension, he who at a certain point seemed to be heading towards the first victory of his career on the American circuit. The American had taken the lead in the central part of the back nine, but two bogeys in the last three holes dropped him to sixth place, with a Sunday finished in 73 strokes (+1) and a total for the tournament of -15.
A sixth place to be divided by four, with him also the Chilean Rico Hoey (67), the American Eric Cole (69) and the South African Erik Van Rooyen (72). Top-10 in Detroit completed by a large group of golfers among which the name of Luke Clanton stands out, a twenty-year-old still non-professional who crowned a dream week with a final 72, finishing tied among others with Nick Dunlap, born in 2003 prodigy who won the Tour as an amateur in January and is now proving himself at very high levels.
For the Florida State University product it is the absolute debut on the PGA Tour, and it is an absolutely important result. American circuit which will have another week in the US continent, before moving to Europe for the Scottish Open and above all the Open Championship.
