Andy Murray will not be able to fully enjoy his last Wimbledon as a professional tennis player. The decision came this morning after a last workout that confirmed that the sensations are not so good that we can think of taking the field in the main draw of singles: so, the Briton reluctantly erased himself from the board.
The former London Grand Slam winner was scheduled to take the field on Tuesday afternoon, July 2 against Czech Tomas Machac. "Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery from his operation just over a week ago, Andy made the very difficult decision not to play singles this year" This is underlined in a statement made public by his team.
"As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will play doubles with Jamie and is looking forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time," they added in the note.

A bad blow for Andy Murray, who has confirmed on several occasions that it is the last tournament in London that will play in his career: the back surgery, following the injury he suffered at Queens, has complicated things for the 37-year-old, who will grit his teeth just to be at the start of the double competition. The next event in singles, probably the last, will be at the Paris Olympics in late July.
The former World No.1 explained the reasons behind his decision: "I decided this morning. Before I went to sleep I told my family that I would not believe that I would play, but I wanted to give myself the chance until the end. Actually, Im training well. When I woke up I moved around the house, but I realized that I was not as I wanted to compete, unfortunately. If anything, Im proud of everything Ive done to give myself the option to play. Ive made the right decision.
