Novak Djokovic wanted to give himself the chance to play Wimbledon after suffering surgery on his right knee on June 5. The hard work he did during rehab and the progress he made over the days gave him the hope of being able to compete on the All England Club grounds despite the short time available.

The Serbian champion reached London in advance to test his condition and train with the best tennis players. Djokovic paid close attention to moves on the field, especially at the start of the game, but still dominated the match with qualified Vit Kopriva and gained access to the second round by winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

On 4-2, the break advantage became two. The third half actually found its epilogue at 2-2, because the Serbian signed two consecutive breaks and won the 93rd game at the Championships.

After his first match in Wimbledon, 24-time Grand Slam champion: "If it was for any other tournament, I wouldn't have risked it or rushed it as much," he admitted. "I just love Wimbledon. I didn't know how everything would unfold. Practice sessions are quite different to matches, so Im extremely glad with how I felt and played today. I tried to really focus on my game and not think about the knee."

The bottom of the draw immediately lost what could have been two great protagonists: Sebastian Korda and Andrey Rublev.

Rublev disappointed in all respects and lost 4-6, 7-5, 2-6, ( 5) 6-7 against Francisco Comesana.
