Jannik Sinner won the US Open for the first time in his career, further increasing the gap with his pursuers in the ATP rankings. The Italian will remain ATP No.1 at least until the start of the ATP Finals.

Mats Wilander is one of his most ardent supporters: the Swedish legend, commenting on the victory of the Italian at Flushing Meadows, explained why Jannik is too superior to the competition and also gave an interesting piece of advice to the young 2-time Slam winner.
In fact, to those who instead claim that Sinner lacks a bit of charisma, the svedera said, in an interview for L'Equipe: "With time and with results, that will come too. At the moment he plays the best tennis in the world, the most complete by far. But I would like to see more of his Italian version and less of his Austrian one. With the character that comes with it and not with that coldness that is proof against everything. But we can't do anything about that, he would have won anyway wearing a bandana, rather than with his gaze hidden under a Jim Courier cap", he said.

This year Sinner has equally divided the number of seasonal Slams with Carlos Alcaraz. Wilander hopes that the Spaniard will be able to face the Italian tennis player, giving life to a splendid rivalry.
"For the good of tennis I hope that this overwhelming domination does not last more than two or three years. There is nothing more boring than a rivalry without opposition in style. Novak Djokovic is exiting the scene, consequently the only rival will be Alcaraz. I expect the Spaniard to say to Sinner: Wait a bit, I'm here too," he added.
Jannik has in the meantime received a lot of support - not only from Wilander - from former tennis players and the media, who now see him as the figure who comes closest to legends like Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. His leadership in the rankings, but not only, make him one of the main favorites to dominate the ATP Tour for the next ten years.
