Last week, delegations from the PIF and the PGA Tour met in New York to discuss the legendary merger between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour (and consequently the DP World Tour, Ed.). The latest chapter in the soap opera (I can't think of a different term to define this long-standing affair) saw Tiger Woods (but Jay Monahan?) at the helm of the men of PGA Tour Enterprises, supported by Adam Scott, another member of the Policy Board.

According to ESPN, the parties are trying to define the terms to arrive at a liquidity injection ($1 billion, Ed.) into PGA Tour Enterprises by the Saudi Sovereign Fund. In a few months, one year will have passed since the deadline (December 31, 2023) originally set for the conclusion of the definitive agreement.

In recent months, there have undoubtedly been more signs of a divergence between the parties than of a common purpose, to the point that from both sides several doubtful messages have arrived about the necessity/advisability of arriving at the planned merger.

Woods' entry into the front line (this is the second meeting he has participated in, after the one last March, Editor's note) does not seem to have had a great effect. According to Bloomberg, the two parties "are closer" to an agreement, but there are still some critical points to be resolved.

First of all, the PGA Tour players have no intention of traveling around the world to participate in a truly global Tour, but that's nothing. Hold on tight. The PGA Tour players have targeted the money voice of their "colleagues" who have signed with LIV Golf, to whom they offer three options: Return all the sums received from LIV Golf;
Pay fines (to be allocated to the charity) in order to play in the tournaments of the (future) PGA Tour;
To forfeit, now for then, any and all sums of money they may win in tournaments on the (future) PGA Tour.
