AEW brought their September 18 Dynamite to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania this week, and a lot of things happened on the road to Grand Slam. Mercedes Mone and Kazuchika Okada were both around, but one sign that a fan made for them wasnt seen on television.
Although AEW liked to proclaim themselves as a fan-centric company, they have taken steps to remove controversial opinions. This includes DMCA takedowns on videos, and it also extends to plucking unfavorable signs from the crowd during their live television broadcasts.
One fan posted on Reddits Squared Circle Subreddit to share one of their homemade projects, a yellow sign that AEW apparently didnt want in the crowd. They were kind of bummed that security took the sign, but AEW still gave them a good show.
This fans sign showed an illustration of a tree, but it had nothing to do with Chris Jerichos Learning Tree gimmick. Instead, the text on the sign said, Okada + Mone Sitting in a Tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G. Apparently, AEW didnt want to endorse that statement by allowing it in their crowd.
On an interesting sidenote about AEWs previous DMCA Takedown efforts, the widely-held belief is that AEW referee Aubrey Edwards has filed many of those takedowns under a fake name.
There is no shortage of rumor and innuendo from the confines of the AEW locker room. Perhaps there is something going on between Okada and Mercedes, but AEW obviously doesnt want fans talking about it if that is the case.
