According to Ibou of WrestlePurists, Tony Khan had the legal right to add injury time to Rey Fenixs contract, a move that would have kept him in AEW longer. Despite having this option, Khan decided against it, respecting Fenixs loyalty and professionalism during his time in AEW. Fenix was known for his dedication, volunteering to work during the pandemic at Dailys Place when it was optional, and never asking for a release from the company. His positive backstage presence was a factor in Khans ultimate decision.
Khan considered adding time to Fenixs deal and was initially frustrated with the situation, but ultimately chose to let him leave on good terms.
