AEW has seen its fair share of former WWE Superstars make the jump to their roster, with some thriving and others struggling to find their footing. Unfortunately, Miro, who was the Bulgarian Brute Rusev in WWE, appears to fall into the latter category. After a much-hyped debut and an initial run with the TNT Championship, Miros time in AEW has been less than ideal, as hes been largely sidelined and forgotten. Now, it seems hes had enough and wants out of Tony Khans company.

According to a report from Fightful Select by Sean Ross Sapp, Miro has officially requested his release from AEW. Miro, formerly Rusev, has asked for his release from All Elite Wrestling, Sapp revealed in the report.

Miro has not wrestled a single match for AEW in 2024, with his last in-ring appearance being a victory at AEW Worlds End in December 2023. Sources indicate that Miro was initially sidelined longer than AEW anticipated after that match, but he has been cleared to compete for quite some time. While there were discussions about including him in the AEW All In Casino Gauntlet match, and Miro himself pitched working with Jon Moxley earlier this year, the two sides have reportedly struggled to align creatively, a problem that has persisted in recent years.

Miros in-ring presence has been limited, to say the least. In 2023, he worked only seven matches and has competed in just 11 bouts since December 2021, a stark contrast to his previous success. As of now, its unclear whether Miro has been granted his release or if WWE has expressed interest in bringing him back. What is known is that Miro is under contract with AEW on a lucrative deal, reportedly earning into the seven-figure range.

Miro initially signed with AEW in September 2020, and although his contract was originally set to expire in Spring 2022, he signed a four-year extension that could keep him with the company until Spring 2026. He wants out of his deal a couple years early, and right now the decision seems to be up to Tony Khan.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold, but for now, Miros future in AEW is uncertain. He recently split from his wife, CJ Perry, months after she was released from AEW. Fans will have to wait and see if Miros request for release is honored and whether hell return to WWE or seek new opportunities elsewhere.

Stay tuned for updates as this story develops, because you never know what can happen in this situation. It is possible that Miro may be able to make a WWE return at this point, but hes also been through a lot over the past year, so its anyones guess what he would do if AEW wasnt keeping him locked into his current deal.
