Tony Khan confirmed that William Regal would be leaving AEW and returning to WWE back in 2022. According to Khan, Regal asked AEW not to renew his contract so he could go back and spend more time with his son, Charlie Dempsey, who wrestles for NXT. At the time, Khan shared that he was in discussions with Regal while his own mother was in the hospital, emphasizing that Regals departure was driven by family matters.
Recently, Regal addressed rumors that he left AEW under questionable circumstances. In response to claims that he snaked the competition, Regal took to social media to clear things up. He explained that he joined AEW at the request of Bryan Danielson and was there to help train talent.
Regal also clarified his interactions with Tony Khan, noting that Khan called him when his mother was ill, not the other way around. Regal ended by saying his contract with AEW expired in December 2022, and anyone doubting his intentions can do their own research.
Since returning to WWE, Regal has made several appearances on NXT, including endorsing Ava as the new NXT GM, continuing his role as a mentor and leader.
