Pro wrestling fans all over are binge-watching the Vince McMahon Netflix docuseries today. Plenty of things, from Bret Hart digging at The Kliq to McMahon commenting on Chris Benoit, are getting conversations started. That being said, McMahon didnt really seem to want to talk about Sable.
The Mr. McMahon documentary on Netflix delves into the blurred lines between Vince McMahon the person and his on-screen character, Mr. McMahon. While Vince insists that there are no similarities between his real-life persona and the character, others in the documentary claim that the two are essentially the same.
In the fourth episode of the series, they brought a focus on Sables rise as one of WWEs most popular performers and her eventual fallout with the company, leading to her 1999 lawsuit alleging sexual harassment.
When asked about Sable, Vince McMahon commented that he didnt know much about any lawsuit. However, he did remember that Sable returned to WWE in 2003, playing the role of Mr. McMahons assistant.
In case you need a refresher, in June 1999, Sable parted ways with the WWF and filed a $110 million lawsuit against the company. The lawsuit included allegations of sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions. Sable stated that the lawsuit stemmed from her refusal to go topless during a segment.
The documentary also touched on McMahons 2001 Playboy interview, where he admitted to cheating on his wife, Linda. In that interview, McMahon stated that his real-life actions were totally unrelated to the affairs portrayed on television through his Mr. McMahon character.
Vince McMahon went on to explain, Me as a human being, generally speaking, is not who that character is. Sometimes people think its the same thing, joking. But nonetheless, no.
