The highly anticipated documentary Mr. McMahon has finally been released, and fans around the world are watching it to learn more about the controversial former WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon. However, Bruce Prichard believes that the early version of the documentary was intended to portray McMahon negatively, suggesting it could have been a hit piece on him.
The series has garnered significant attention from wrestling fans, as the production team was given rare access to interview the former WWE Chairman extensively. Despite McMahons limited interview history, many key aspects of his life have been captured in the series.
Many of the interviews for the Mr. McMahon documentary were recorded before the hush money and sexual misconduct allegations surfaced in June 2022. Bruce Prichard did his interview in January 2024, prior to the lawsuit filed by Janel Grant against WWE and Vince McMahon.
Prichard, after watching an early version of the documentary, expressed disappointment. He believed the early cut was unfairly negative, describing it as a gotcha piece designed to make McMahon look bad. Prichard felt the documentary lacked balance, saying it focused on portraying McMahon poorly rather than showing his full character, including the compassionate side.
For example, Prichard shared that when his wife was diagnosed with cancer and given a four-year life expectancy, McMahon ensured she had the best care, which extended her life for 24 years. Prichard was critical of how the documentary chose to frame McMahon, suggesting it wasnt a true reflection of his life and story.
