Why has Holger Rune not yet reached the same level of Carlos Alcaraz and Janniks Sinner? The Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, in an interview with Tennis Infinity, tried to give an answer to this question. According to the Frenchman, the young Dane is not yet at the level of the Spaniard and the Italian but, in the future, he will have his opportunities to win a Major, there being more space than in the Fab 4 tennis era.

"Rune will not be satisfied until he wins a Grand Slam tournament. I would not be surprised if he manages to win one one day. Obviously he is not as strong as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but there will be more space for players than in the golden age of tennis with Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. There will be opportunities for many of them and I think he will be one of those players who will be able to seize his chances," he analyzed.
And to think that there was a moment in which the Dane seemed to be able to follow the same growth path as his two rivals but, at least for now, this has not been the case. Holger even unlocked himself before the Italian in the ATP Masters 1000, triumphing in Paris-Bercy in 2022 and beating Novak Djokovic in an incredible final.
The tennis court, however, then showed something else. Although he remains a player ready to surprise everyone in big matches, the 21-year-old has shown that he has not made that definitive leap in quality, losing a lot of ground to those who could be his main rivals in the coming years.

Sinner and Alcaraz have made significant improvements to their game, their mentality and their athleticism: the results are on their side, especially from what we have seen in the Slams. The same cannot be said of Rune, who has not yet found his balance as his complicated year demonstrates.
