The show began with AJ Styles reflecting on his past WWE run and expressing regret for the actions that led to his I Quit Match against Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at Clash at the Castle. He also hyped his return to the ring and how he wants to make a mark on his legacy this time around.
Before Styles could finish his thoughts, he was interrupted by Carmelo Hayes, who took the opportunity to mock AJ for being an old-timer. This comment did not sit well with Styles, who quickly challenged Hayes to a match. Initially, Carmelo declined the challenge, but WWE United States Champion LA Knight intervened, offering Hayes a shot at his title if he could defeat AJ Styles.
Unfortunately, the match did not go as planned, as Styles sustained an injury that led to the match being called off, resulting in a win for Hayes. The situation was disappointing for Styles, who had been eager to compete after returning from an extended break.

Earlier in the week, Braun Strowman also suffered a torn groin during his match against Bronson Reed, affecting his mobility throughout the contest.
This wasnt the only injury that WWE saw this week, as Braun Strowman also suffered a groin issue during his Last Monster Standing match. Injuries can be a setback for any wrestler, especially for AJ Styles, who had been out of action for over a month prior to this incident.
