AEW has seen their fair share of controversy over the years, and it appears that their troubles with the state of Oklahoma are not over by a long shot. They have Nyla Rose on their roster, a transgender woman, but she is now allowed to lock up with biological females in the Sooner State.
Nyla Rose has publicaly called out the state of Oklahoma saying that she cant wrestle biological females in their state. Tony Khan is also disappointed by this ruling.
In a new update to this story from OKC FOX, the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission has decided to stick to their guns. The ban is still in place, which prohibits intergender matches, and it also prevents transgender wrestlers from having matches with the same gender as part of that.
This issue arose after a December 2023 match involving transgender AEW wrestler Nyla Rose. Although the OSACs current rule prohibits intergender matches, the commission has held multiple meetings to discuss potential changes.
Opinions were divided, with some members citing a law requiring athletes to compete based on their biological sex, while others argue that the law doesnt apply to professional wrestling. In the end, they have decided to keep the ruling in place.
We will have to see if Nyla Rose is able to wrestle in Oklahoma again, but its not looking likely at this point. Needless to say, this is a controversial ruling, but Oklahoma has been the first state so far to put down this motion.
