Jonathan Coachman, former WWE commentator and broadcast personality, recently opened up about one of the most infamous storylines in WWE historythe Katie Vick storyline involving Triple H and Kane.
Coachman worked in WWE from 1999 to 2008 and got a front-row seat to some of Vince McMahons most controversial creative decisions. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Coachman described the disturbing nature of the storyline and his regret over not standing up to McMahon when it was being developed.
Coachman recounted that during McMahons reign, few people dared challenge his creative ideas. Many within the company were afraid of saying no to the WWE chairman, despite their discomfort. As Coachman revealed, the Katie Vick storyline was one of those situations where McMahons creativity went too far, pushing boundaries for shock value.
In the Katie Vick angle, Triple H accused Kane of murdering his friend, Katie Vick, and then took the storyline further by suggesting that Kane had committed necrophilia. The storyline infamously included a backstage segment in which Triple H, dressed as Kane, simulated getting intimate with a mannequin representing the deceased Vick in a funeral parlor.
Coachman recalled how the segment was filmed off-site, and none of the WWE staff, including himself, had seen the footage until it aired on TV. The reaction backstage was immediate.
Despite his regrets, Coachman noted that McMahons desire to push boundaries with shocking TV moments often overshadowed common sense, and he believes Triple H would likely admit that the angle went too far if asked today.
This isnt the first time Coachman has voiced concerns over his experiences in WWE. He previously shared stories about the high-pressure environment McMahon created, including how he was once made to miss Christmas with his family because of a last-minute call from McMahon.
