"I stayed focused from start to finish, I played a great match. I suffered a break in the first set when I was ahead, which is always frustrating, but I immediately took the lead again. I served better and better as the minutes went by. I was aggressive and took advantage of my opportunities," he said at the press conference.
The American did not leave a single set on the road in the four matches that allowed him to push himself to the penultimate act of the Chinese event. To reach the final he will have to achieve an objective that he has never managed to achieve before: beat Djokovic.
"Novak and I have played so many times and I have never beaten him. I am waiting for that moment and I am motivated for the opportunity that I will have tomorrow. I am waiting for the first win against him. It would be nice. Obviously it will be incredibly tough. He could go 0-10 in the head-to-head. I hope to beat him, because I am getting better and better and I am excited to play him again," he explained
"The US Open Final made me realize that I don't need to play incredibly all the time to get important results. That was something that stressed me a lot in the past. A lot of the results I have achieved this year, including the one at the US Open, have taught me that. I don't need to play perfect to get to the end of tournaments. My average level has improved a lot," he added.
