Swerve Strickland made a big return to AEW at WrestleDream, and he didnt waste time making an impact. Joined by Prince Nana, Swerve spoke to the crowd, sharing his frustration about losing the AEW World Title. He also announced that he is fully cleared to wrestle again.
Things took an unexpected turn when MVP showed up with Shelton Benjamin. MVP talked about his impressive career and his success managing champions. He reminded Swerve about their past match at DEFY Wrestling and said he wanted to work with him.
Swerve acknowledged MVPs influence, especially as someone who paved the way for Black wrestlers like himself. However, despite some issues with Prince Nana, Swerve made it clear he stays loyal to his team. He turned down MVPs offer and told him to keep his business cards to himself.
Shelton Benjamin then stepped in, telling Swerve he misunderstood the situation and that he needed to make a choice. Tensions rose, and the two began shoving each other before officials stepped in to stop things from getting out of hand.
While speaking during the post-WrestleDream media scrum, Swerve Strickland revealed that while hes been medically cleared to wrestle, the timing of his return to the ring is still uncertain. He admitted hes not at 100% yet but is ready to move forward. At the post-show press conference, he reflected on how last years WrestleDream marked the beginning of his rise to the main event and the AEW World Championship, making this years return feel significant.
When Nigel McGuinness later asked if Shelton Benjamin would be his first opponent, Swerve responded that it was likely, but he wanted to see how things unfold in the coming weeks.
