Rasmus Hojlund has struggled with consistent fitness concerns since his move to Manchester United and the 21-year-old has already missed a large chunk of the 2024/25 campaign.

After injuring his hamstring during pre-season, Hojlund missed the opening weeks of the new campaign and has only recently returned to the fray. The 72m centre-forward was also absent for a number of matches during his debut season at Old Trafford, hindering his development significantly.

Despite returning to fitness after the September international break, Man Utd have been left sweating over his injury status once again as October's international period draws to a conclusion.

Here's the latest on Hojlund's fitness as club football nears its return.

Manchester United have had torrid luck with injuries over the past year and Hojlund has been a regular in the treatment room. The October break has sparked fears over the potential absence of the Denmark international in the coming weeks after he missed a training session on Sunday due to fitness concerns.

There was no detailed explanation of his absence but naturally United fans were left fearing the worst, with Hojlund having featured during the 1-0 defeat to Spain last Saturday from the bench.

However, fears will have been allayed by Hojlund's reported return to team training on Monday ahead of Denmark's clash with Switzerland on Tuesday night. Supporters will be eager to see whether or not Hojlund starts in St Gallen.

Hojlund could well feature on Tuesday night against Switzerland which would put to rest any concerns over his availability for Man Utd after the international break concludes. However, if he misses out, Erik ten Hag will be quizzed on the youngster ahead of the Red Devils' clash with Brentford this Saturday.

With Man Utd in desperate form and Ten Hag under enormous pressure in the dugout, Hojlund will be sorely missed if unavailable for the coming matches. After Brentford, the Red Devils face Fenerbahce on the road in the Europa League before visiting West Ham United in the Premier League. They close out the month against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Hojlund has made five appearances for Man Utd this season, opening his account for 2024/25 in the dramatic 3-3 draw with Porto in the Europa League.

Who could replace Rasmus Hojlund in the Man Utd team?

Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee is the obvious candidate to replace Hojlund but the Dutchman hasn't made the fastest start to life in English football. After a dream debut in which he scored the winner against Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League season, the former Bologna man finds himself without a goal in nine games at club level.

Zirkzee has been in action with the Netherlands over the international period but drew a blank against Hungary before only making a cameo appearance against Germany.

Of course, Marcus Rashford is another option in the final third for Ten Hag. The inconsistent Englishman has been hit-and-miss this term but has started to rediscover some form in recent weeks and could be used through the middle as opposed to on the left flank.
