WWE is the dream for many pro wrestlers, and its hard to think about going anywhere else once youve reached the top. That being said, Sidney Akeem, who was known as Reggie during his time with the company, didnt know if he would carry on after his own departure.

Sidney Akeem recently reflected on his journey after leaving WWE. Akeem had notable moments in WWE, including serving as Carmellas sommelier and capturing the WWE 24/7 Championship four times. After a successful run, he transitioned to NXT. However, on June 1st, WWE decided not to renew his contract, making him a free agent. Since his release, Akeem has been active on the independent wrestling scene.

In a conversation with MuscleManMalcolm, Akeem discussed a passionate promo by Mustafa Ali after their match at GCW Live Fast, Die Young, and how it resonated with him. Akeem revealed that he had seriously considered quitting wrestling after his departure from WWE. While reflecting on Alis words and the experience, Akeem said that he almost quit the sport after leaving WWE.

Sidney Akeem further explained his feelings after his WWE exit as he said, Im like, damn, am I really not good enough? Because I did everything that they wanted me to do, and I made lemonade out of lemons. I did everything, and Im like, What else could I have done? I know now what else I could have done. Im like, should I walk away? Should I go back to the circus? He acknowledged that while he had doubts, he quickly dismissed the thought of leaving wrestling and embraced his new path.

Akeems transition to the independent scene started strong, as his first match against Jackie Cartwheel went viral. He said, It was like, Im right where I need to be. Now, this is just furthering that decision. Its tough, going from the grand stage to the grind, it is tough, and it is stressful. But when Im inside those ropes, it feels good. Im having fun.

Sidney Akeem is now focused on his journey in independent wrestling, feeling confident and content with where his career is headed. We will have to see what he is able to do next, but the sky is the limit for the Saint Louis native.
