Losses at former US President Donald Trump's golf course in the Scottish Highlands nearly doubled in 2023 to 1.4m (1.6m), according to figures published in the UK's Companies House. The course on the Menie estate in Balmedie (near the city of Aberdeen) posted these annual losses in the year ending 31 December 2023 despite receiving a 4.8m (5.7m) loan from Trump's company DJT Holdings.

In 2022, losses had been 738,000 (882,611). A big sum for him too.

Trump's sons Eric and Donald Jr. are directors of the facility, while Trump remains listed as a "person with significant control". The 4.8m loan for the development brings DJT Holdings' total borrowings to 11.8m.

Despite revenues rising slightly from 3.6m to 3.75m, the course remains in the red. The club hosted the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Senior Championship in August. Eric Trump said in a signed statement in the accounts that the owners are committed to the project and are confident that the investments made will have a positive impact in the medium and long term.

The golf course was handed over to Trump's children shortly before he took office in 2017 and opened amid strong opposition over its impact on the environment, specifically damage to what was a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The estate will open a new 18-hole course, the MacLeod Course, in honour of Trump's mother Mary - who was born on the Scottish island of Lewis - next summer and will have the "largest sand dunes in Scotland" according to the club.

In addition, the Trump family owns the Trump Turnberry resort in Ayrshire, which increased its profits last year, going from 186,000 pounds (222,408 euros) in 2022 to 3.8 million pounds (4.5 million euros). Donald Trump is the Republican candidate in the US elections against Democrat Kamala Harris on November 5. And this is about it for the the moment.
