Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix have been big names in AEWs tag team divisio since the companys launch in 2019, and recent rumors suggested they might be heading to WWE. However, that wont be happening for the foreseeable future. In addition to that, Tony Khan has extended Rey Fenixs contract by adding injury time, delaying any potential move and now the possibility of Fenix returning to AEW television has been revealed.

There had been speculation that Penta El Zero Miedo was in talks with WWE, with indications that he and Rey Fenix would only consider joining if they both secured contracts. However, it was later confirmed that The Lucha Brothers remain under contract with AEW, preventing any immediate move to WWE.

Reports revealed that Tony Khan extended Rey Fenixs contract by adding injury time, prolonging his stay with AEW by nearly a year. Although Khan has made significant efforts to retain Fenix with substantial offers, a new contract has yet to be finalized. This ongoing situation has effectively stopped any potential move by the Lucha Brothers to WWE for now.

While speaking during a Q and A onWrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked about the future of The Lucha Bros, particularly after reports surfaced that Rey Fenixs contract had been extended. Meltzer clarified that only Fenixs deal was extended, not Pentas, which means Penta El Zero Miedo will soon become a free agent.

As for Fenix, Meltzer noted that its unlikely but not impossible that AEW will use him during this contract extension period. He explained that Tony Khan tends not to feature talent who are planning to leave for WWE, so Fenix may be frozen for a while. However, if AEW needs someone to put on entertaining matches where the wrestler loses, Fenix could be an option, though not a winner in those bouts. Meltzer mentioned that AEW could focus more on other wrestlers like Bandido or even Hologram, Tony Khans current priority, to fill the masked Mexican wrestler role.

Rey Fenix last wrestled on July 26th for CMLL, while his most recent AEW match took place six days earlier on Collision, where he defeated Tony Nese. Therefore, well have to wait and see if Tony Khan will find any use for Rey Fenix, as it seems likely Fenix will remain absent until his contract expires next year.
