Vince McMahon announced his retirement at the age of 77 in 2022 after facing hush-money allegations. After he stepped down, Triple H became the Head of Creative. When McMahon returned in 2023, he resumed control but later resigned again. McMahon also allegedly disliked NXT because it was created by Triple H and not by him.

WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, who is a close friend of Triple H, recently stated that Triple H would have quit if Vince McMahon had taken full control of creative again and not resigned.

While speaking on his Behind the Turnbuckle podcast, Jonathan Coachman, agreed that there could be truth to Nashs comments. Coachman explained that Vince didnt like how popular Triple Hs NXT project became because it wasnt his idea. He pointed out that Vince didnt push NXT stars because he didnt want people to think Triple H was smarter than him. According to Coachman, Vince preferred to get credit for everything, even if it meant not letting others succeed.

Despite the changes in leadership, WWEs business is thriving, largely due to Triple Hs creative direction and Vince McMahons departure. The same can be said for NXT under Shawn Michaels vision and thats all that truly matters at the moment.
