Hiroshi Tanahashi is without a doubt one of the biggest stars in NJPW and is considered a living legend by many fans. Even though he was once known as The Ace of NJPW, its clear that age has started to slow him down. He is set to retire from pro wrestling in 2026 and has now confirmed what he plans to do after he retires.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling revealed a shift in its leadership, with Hiroshi Tanahashi being appointed as the new President of the promotion. This decision was reached during a meeting of NJPWs board of directors and shareholders on December 23, 2023.
Hiroshi Tanahashi, who has been juggling his executive duties with his in-ring career, recently confirmed that he will retire after his final match at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 on January 4, 2026.
At a press conference, Tanahashi revealed his post-retirement plans. He announced that he will take on a full-time office role once his wrestling career is over. Tanahashi also expressed confidence in the future of NJPW, saying that the current team is well-equipped to guide the company into a new and successful era, and he feels prepared for his transition into the office role.
We will have to wait and see who will end up being Hiroshi Tanahashis final opponent in 2026, as fans will definitely be sad when the Ace of NJPW finally hangs up his pro wrestling boots for good.
