Montez Ford has all the makings of a breakout starcharisma, in-ring skill, and an undeniable connection with fans. Yet, despite his talent, the Street Profits high-flyer has not made the jump to a singles run in WWE, leaving many to wonder whats holding him back.
In a recent interview with The Daily Star, Ford revealed his mounting frustrations with his current position in WWE. From constant run-ins with the Bloodline to coming up short in the Tag Team Championship picture, Ford hinted that he may be nearing a breaking point. There needs to be another shift. There has to be, Ford admitted, suggesting that it might be time for a change in direction.
Ford has been on the frontlines of some of WWEs biggest stories, battling the Bloodline for the past four years alongside Angelo Dawkins and, occasionally, Kevin Owens. However, after so many missed opportunities, Ford seems to be questioning how much longer he can tread the same path. I feel like my confidence is at an all-time high, he said, but even that confidence is being tested. You seen what happened to Kevin Owens recentlyhes frustrated. I feel like Im on the verge of becoming the same way.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the real reason behind the delay in Fords singles push lies not in Fords abilities but in concerns about the future of his tag team partner, Angelo Dawkins. Meltzer explained that WWE has long had plans for Ford to transition into a singles star, but the company has hesitated.
While Dawkins has shown significant improvement in the ring and on the mic, WWE is reportedly concerned that splitting the Street Profits could leave him without a meaningful direction. Ford, aware of this potential fallout, seems reluctant to make the leap, even though many believe hes ready to break out as a major singles competitor.
As Ford hinted at the need for change, many fans are wondering if that shift will come in the form of Ford finally going solo. But with the lingering concern about Dawkins future, its unclear when WWE will pull the trigger on Fords long-anticipated singles run.
