The Challenge Tour concludes in Spain with the 29th event on the calendar, at the end of which the 20 cards for the DP World Tour 2025 will be awarded to the best of the Road to Mallorca (order of merit). On the course of the Club de Golf Alcanada, in Port dAlcdia on the island of Mallorca, the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by the R&A will be held from 31 October to 3 November, now in its 30th edition, to which the first 47 classified in the money list have been admitted, among whom will be Gregorio De Leo (33rd) who, like all the others, has the possibility of accessing the main circuit. In fact, together with the prize pool of 500,000 euros, with a first prize of 80,000 euros, there will be 4,000 points up for grabs for the Road to Mallorca, of which 640 will be awarded to the winner and therefore, even the last currently, the South African Justin Walters, with a success would have the opportunity to enter within the 22nd position, the last one that qualifies. Two are deducted because the Danish Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen (n. 2, three titles this season) and the South African Robin Williams (n. 10), who will surely finish among the 20, already have a better category on the DP World Tour and therefore will not be included in this ranking.
Challenge Tour, schedule
In the competition, there will be a competition to define the best player of the season and there will be a fight to remain among the 22 and or to enter. In the first case, it will be contested between the first nine of the ranking, all privileged, in the sense that they already have the 'card' in their pocket. There is only 46 points between the leader, Englishman John Parry, and Neergaard-Petersen, and so it doesnt take much to change things, but behind them are, in order, Hamish Brown, Conor Purcell, Oliver Lindell, Angel Ayora, Joakim Lagergren, Jack Senior and Joel Moscatel, who can all aspire to first place with a victory and also with high ranking positions, depending in this case also on the others.
In the central area, Martin Couvra (19th) and the three who follow him, Lucas Bjerregaard, Sam Hutsby and Nicolai Von Dellingshausen, are not at all calm, with Jamie Rutherford, Euan Walker, Wilco Nienaber and Felix Mory close behind, but not only them. As for De Leo, he is 124 points behind the last one who at the moment would be on the major tour (Von Dellingshausen), so his hopes are based on a placement within fifth place, but with less chance if further back.
The course of the Club de Golf Alcanada, which is hosting the tournament for the fourth time, the third consecutive and the first in 2019 when Francesco Laporta won, will be a tough test for the competitors. Designed by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr and opened in 2003, in addition to its technical qualities, it offers remarkable panoramic views of the sea, the mountains and the lighthouse located on the nearby island.
As for the Italians, in addition to Laporta, the Grand Final was also won by Andrea Pavan (2011), while the money list was won by Giuseppe Cal (1990), Michele Reale (1997), Edoardo Molinari (2009), Andrea Pavan (2013) and Laporta himself (2019). The circuit founded in 1989 has seen 221 players play who have then scored on the DP World Tour on 593 occasions.
