Netflix is saying goodbye to most of its interactive content as of December 1, a move confirmed by the company to The Verge.
The streaming giants Interactive Specials page currently lists 24 titles, but only four will be spared from removal: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls, and You vs. Wild.
For WWE fans, this means the Escape The Undertaker special, featuring The New Day attempting to survive the supernatural challenges of the Undertakers eerie lair, is set to be delisted. If youre a Netflix subscriber, you still have a few weeks to watch this unique experience before it disappears from the platform.
Netflix first dabbled in interactive content back in 2017 with Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, drawing a mix of intrigue and apprehension with the more ambitious Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. The companys interactive forays also included specials based on beloved franchises such as Carmen Sandiego and Boss Baby, as well as innovative attempts like daily trivia games. Despite these efforts, the limited number of interactive titles suggests that the format didnt achieve widespread popularity, with early projects like Puss in Book already having been quietly removed from the lineup.
The decision to discontinue interactive content follows Netflixs pivot in its gaming strategy. Former Netflix gaming boss Mike Verdu, now a VP of GenAI for Games at the company, previously noted to Game Files Stephen Totilo that Netflix had stopped producing interactive content. The companys journey into gaming has been marked with challenges, including the closure of its AAA game studio before any games were released and a slow rollout of its game streaming beta.
