Eric Bischoff is known for being outspoken, but even he was taken aback when he discovered he was featured in Mr. McMahon, Netflixs recent docuseries about WWEs Vince McMahon.
The show has been buzzing in the wrestling world, particularly amid reports that Vince McMahon might be setting up a non-wrestling entertainment venture. With big-name appearances from the likes of Shane McMahon, Hulk Hogan, Stephanie McMahon, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, and Triple H, Bischoffs inclusion raised some eyebrows.
In a chat with Justin Barrasso, Bischoff opened up about the surprise of seeing himself in the series. I didnt know. Isnt that crazy? he admitted. They never asked me to be part of that Netflix production. They never called and asked.
Despite not being informed or compensated, Bischoff isnt holding a grudge. He explained how Netflix used pre-existing footage from an interview he did on the NWO, saying, Within their original agreement with WWE, Netflix had access to all kinds of other footage. Some of that was access to footage I did from other products. What we saw on that Vince series was from an interview I did on the NWO, which was content that dovetailed right into the content they wanted to create.
While the former WCW President could have been upset about the lack of communication and payment, he took the high road. I didnt get paid a dime, no one called to say, Do you mind if we do this?, and no one ever called to say thanks. But Im not angry about it. Im grateful, and Im really happy they did it. A lot of good has come out of it. They must have felt like what they had fit perfectly. So Im not bitching. Like I said, Im grateful for it.
While unexpected, his inclusion in Mr. McMahon adds authenticity to the series and showcases the far-reaching impact of his contributions to the industry. Its a reminder of how the wrestling world continues to surprise its fans with behind-the-scenes stories that keep the conversation alive.
