I will not start wars, but I will stop them. Somebody told me that God spared me for a reason. And now we will complete the mission: I will keep my promises. I want to thank you. This campaign was historic. We are the party of common sense, we want border security."
With these words, the 47th President of the United States of America Donald Trump thanked his voters in his victory speech at the Palm Beach Convention Center. Trump, the Republican candidate, clearly defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, winning 279 electors against the 223 of the Dem candidate. A victory also in the Senate and also in the popular vote, which sparked many comments, some of which came from tennis players and former players, while others - like Elon Musk, one of the main supporters of the Trump campaign - used tennis words to comment on the victory.
The CEO of Tesla, Space X and owner of X commented on the victory of the Republican candidate by writing: "Game, set and match."
Through her social media, however, Coco Gauff, who is currently playing the WTA Finals in Riyadh and who had openly sided against Trump, wrote throught an Instagram story: "Allow yourself to feel how you feel during difficult times, especially today. Lean on God with your worries. He is the highest power. Remember that."
WTA tennis legend Martina Navratilova, who has long criticized the Republican, said on X: "Well, Trump won. Fear and anger won. And a country that was born a racist patriarchy has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that it is still a racist patriarchy. I don't know when that will stop being true."
The former Scottish champion Andy Murray also expressed, sarcastically commenting on Trump's words, who had said: "A lot of talk about massive CHEATING in Philadelphia. Law Enforcement coming!!!" Murray responded on X with two laughing emoticons, writing: "This hasnt aged well!"
