Last year, WWE was thinking about allowing betting on their matches, which could have had a big impact on the company. Even though WWE matches are planned ahead of time, they are not fake as wrestlers work together to create a captivating story inside the ring. This was before WWEs merger with UFC, and now, Mark Shapiro has cleared up the situation.
Reports stated WWE was looking at a model similar to those used in some states that allow betting on award shows. In this model, the results would be planned months in advance and confirmed by an accounting firm like Ernst & Young. WWE was in talks with gambling regulators in Colorado and Michigan about legalizing betting on major matches.
They had also registered with the Indiana Gaming Commission as part of their efforts to make betting on WWE matches legal. However, the Colorado Division of Gaming stated that they did not plan to allow betting on WWE matches.
While speaking in an interview withCNBC Sports, TKO COO Mark Shapiro was asked if WWE will ever consider legalized betting. Shapiro made it very clear that legalized sports betting would never happen in the company and put all rumors to bed.
Professional wrestling is pre-determined but that does not mean betting of this sort would work in WWE at all. Nonetheless, fans are glad that Mark Shapiro confirmed it will never happen in WWE and now there will never be any speculation in that regard.
