ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi presented the 55th edition of the ATP Finals talking about many interesting topics, one of which was Jannik Sinner's Clostebol doping-issue.
The former Italian tennis player now in charge of men's tennis, questioned on the appeal presented by WADA to the CAS in Lausanne on the doping case involving the current ATP No.1, doesn't comment the matter, explaining: "I would prefer not to answer, there is an ongoing case that has been brought to the CAS. We are totally external and independent, I cannot add any further comments."
The groups for the Finals were drawn just this morning: Jannik Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur in the Ilie Nasstase Group, while Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev will be part of the John Newcombe Group.
Talking about the 2024 edition of the ATP Finals, Gaudenzi said: "We are proud that the Nitto ATP Finals, with $15 million up for grabs, offers the biggest prize pool on the men's tour, with $4.8 million awarded to an undefeated champion. We have chosen to name the two singles groups after two greats of the past, Ilie Nastase and John Newcombe. As the crown jewel of the ATP Tour, this tournament sets the standard for excellence, an achievement made possible thanks to the dedication of our partners, players and, above all, fans. I am proud that this event is in Italy and to crown Jannik Sinner as the year-end number one in his country."
