Pro wrestling has always had its fair share of wild and outlandish gimmicks, but JCW might have just taken it to another level with their latest character, CoKanea cocaine-inspired spin on WWE Hall of Famer Kane. While some fans in the indie wrestling scene might find humor in this extreme take, former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman isnt laughing. In fact, hes outraged.
Taking to Twitter/X, Coachman didnt hold back his feelings on the matter. If he is trying to get noticed congratulations you succeeded. But this is without a doubt, and its not close, the dumbest gimmick I have ever seen in my career. And hes not alone. The promoters, the announcers, and the fans on here saying this is exactly what we need in wrestling.
Coachmans criticism didnt stop there. He addressed the potential impact of such a gimmick on impressionable audiences. Pro wrestling at the highest level is replicated by kids and adults. And to watch a person pull an 8 ball of cocaine out of his tights, pretending to take it all in and then performing a move, is as idiotic as anything I have ever seen. It might be funny to many of you. I dont find this funny at all.
This is not the first time a wrestling veteran has publicly condemned the gimmick. Dustin Rhodes initially expressed his frustration by tweeting, This is disgustingly stupid. All involved should be ashamed. Work or not. However, after facing backlash from some in the wrestling community who found the character amusing or felt the criticism was too harsh, Rhodes deleted his tweet.
Despite the removal of Rhodes post, Jonathan Coachmans scathing remarks remain, emphasizing his unwavering stance. His comments have kept the conversation going, with fans divided on whether such gimmicks push the envelope too far or are simply part of wrestlings eclectic history.
