Although many people believe that accepting an offer from LIV Golf is the easiest decision, it seems things aren't quite that simple. Polish golfer Adrian Meronk spoke to the media about his decision to join LIV Golf. Meronk, who had earned a spot on the PGA Tour after competing on the DP World Tour, was given an ultimatum by LIV Golf: "You have two days to think about the offer."

On one hand, the Polish golfer knew he had a chance to play on the prestigious PGA Tour, where the biggest names compete.
On the other hand, LIV Golf offered him a huge amount of money, fewer events, and other benefits.
While he knew joining LIV would attract criticism, he also felt the backlash would likely be less intense than what others before him had faced. Meronk admitted that he wasn't sure about his decision a week before making it, and that he had to consult with his family, manager, and friends. In the end, many people around him agreed that LIV Golf was the right choice for him.
I couldnt eat for a week, he said, as quoted by Golf Digest.
I felt worse than I ever had before. I had such a fever. But it was then or maybe never. It was one week before the first LIV event in Mexico. I talked to my manager, my family and my friends. They all played a part, and we ended up making the decision as one. We figured LIV would be most beneficial to my well-being and the well-being of my family. I know I did the right thing. Ive played some good golf. Ive learned some new things.

Meronk explained that his decision to join LIV Golf was influenced by several factors. One of the main reasons was his desire to play fewer tournaments and enjoy life more. After what had been the best season of his career, he found himself exhausted by the schedule. He didnt have time to relax or appreciate his achievements because he immediately had to travel to Australia to defend his Australian Open title. He realized that playing fewer events would allow him more time to recharge, and this was a key factor in his decision to make the move to LIV.
Many golfers before him shared the view, pointing out that playing fewer events made their job much easier. Experienced golfers will still often share their opinion, considering that in previous seasons they had an overcrowded schedule, which caused them problems in the end.

Adrian Meronk on finances
The Polish golfer admitted that finances also played an important role in his decision, and he didnt want to deceive his fans. Adrian Meronk believes that if he denied the financial aspect, many people wouldnt take him seriously. However, hes happy to have been part of a team, to travel, and to broaden his horizons. Being part of a team is something Meronk has always wanted, and based on what hes heard, the PGA Tour can often be a lonely place. According to some European golfers' comments, the PGA Tour tends to represent a typical Western culture, where individualism takes precedence over cohesion or teamwork.
Of course, putting a label on all players or the entire Tour is not fair, but it seems that the PGA Tour has a slightly different philosophy than LIV Golf.

The 31-year-old golfer emphasized that not playing in the Ryder Cup was a turning point that forced him to focus more on himself as an individual. After the disappointment of not being selected for the 2023 Ryder Cup, Meronks perspective on everything changed. While every golfer dreams of being part of the Ryder Cup, the Polish golfer acknowledges that its not the most important thing in the world. However, he doesnt deny that playing in the Ryder Cup remains a dream of his. Meronk admitted that he would often check the rankings when he dreamed of being part of the team, but now, he sees things differently.
Meronk stressed that he received many messages from other players after he was left out of the Ryder Cup team. He admitted that it was difficult to accept, especially after the strong year he had. However, he came to terms with it and even considered that it might have been the right decision. The 31-year-old acknowledged that the team performed well, and while winning can make any decision look right, he has moved past the disappointment. Meronk remains hopeful that he will have other chances to qualify for future Ryder Cups.
