Inter Miami enjoyed the best MLS regular season in history with Gerardo 'Tata' Martino and Lionel Messi leading the club from start to finish.
The experienced boss in Martino had to navigate injuries and suspensions along the way but he still managed to claim the 2024 Supporters' Shield title, the trophy given to the team with the most points after the 34-game regular season. Messi more than played his part with 36 goal contributions in 19 appearances as Miami collected 74 total points, a new MLS single-season record.
While the south Florida club came up short in the MLS Cup playoffs against Atlanta United, it was still an impressive campaign from Miami that featured plenty of memorable victories.
Here are Miami's five biggest wins from the 2024 regular season.
5. Sporting Kansas City 23 Inter Miami (Apr. 13, 2024)
Miami and Messi were expected to put on a show in front of one of the biggest crowds in MLS history at Arrowhead Stadium and they didn't disappoint. Sporting Kansas City's Erik Thommy opened the scoring early on with a brilliant strike but the Herons rebounded with goals from Diego Gmez, Messi and Luis Surez to claim a comeback win away from home.
4. Inter Miami 50 Orlando City (Mar. 2, 2024)
The Herons picked up their second win of the 2024 regular season in emphatic fashion at home against their in-state rivals Orlando City. Surez bagged his first couple of goals as a Miami player and Messi managed a brace in one of the most lopsided Miami wins of the season.
3. Inter Miami 62 New York Red Bulls (May 4, 2024)
In Miami's first meeting with New York Red Bulls during March, the Herons faltered and fell 40 away from home in a humbling defeat at Red Bull Arena. However, in the return fixture at Chase Stadium, Miami ran rampant to send a message about the star players it hasSurez tallied a hat trick while Messi set a new MLS record with six goal involvements in one game. Oh, and Miami scored all six goals in the second half.
2. Inter Miami 62 New England Revolution (Oct. 19, 2024)
Miami enjoyed another 62 win on the final day of the regular season to clinch the MLS single-season points record. It didn't seem like Miami would pull through at first after the Revolution took a 20 lead through 34 minutes played.
However, Surez scored twice in three minutes before halftime to level the score before Miami scored a flurry of goals in the second half. Benjamin Cremaschi put Miami ahead before Messi recorded his first hat trick as Miami reached the historic 74 point total to make MLS history.
1. Columbus Crew 23 Inter Miami (Oct. 2, 2024)
Martino's team clinched the 2024 Supporters' Shield title in Miami's thrilling away win at Columbus Crew in early October. The Crew knocked Miami out of the Leagues Cup tournament a few months prior and the Herons returned the favor with a narrow win to lift their second trophy in club history.
The end of the first half brought on a quick-fire brace from Messi that featured a stunning free kick from the 37-year-old legend. Surez reinstated Miami's lead just after halftime as the Herons would hold on to claim the top overall spot in the MLS standings for the 2024 campaign.
