After competing as a professional for a quarter of a century, Roger ended his tennis journey at the 2022 Laver Cup. Federer prevailed over Dominik Koepfer before withdrawing ahead of the Matteo Berrettini clash, maintaining his knee for the beloved grass season. Roger experienced his earliest Halle exit to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round, feeling pain in his troubled knee and hoping for a miracle at Wimbledon.
As it turned out, an eight-time Wimbledon champion stopped the clock in London, beating four rivals and becoming the oldest quarter-finalist at the sacred tennis courts since the beginning of the Open era. Seeking the semi-final spot, the Swiss experienced a heavy 6-3, 7-6, 6-0 defeat to Hubert Hurkacz, experiencing the first bagel since the 2008 Roland Garros final and playing his last singles duel! Struggling to compete injury-free, Roger underwent the third surgery a few weeks later. The results were not there, and the Swiss maestro decided to end his career at the 2022 Laver Cup.
