Kurt Angle, WWE legend and Olympic gold medalist, is gearing up to bring his epic life story to the big screenbut not as a sprawling TV drama. The wrestling icon recently opened up on Busted Open Radio about how a two-part biopic is in the works, focusing on his early days and Olympic glory. But dont expect it to be a series like Yellowstone, and heres why.
When my documentary came out, Hollywood came calling, Angle dished, revealing that multiple producers lined up for a shot at telling his story.
I had one director, he was like, Listen, I want to do a TV show. I want this to be the next Yellowstone. But the pitch took a turn when the director laid out his vision. I said, Okay, what do you want in it? Hes like, I want everything, Angle recalled.
And thats where things hit a snag. The WWE Hall of Famer explained that parts of his life story involved sensitive family moments, issues that some of his loved ones dont want rehashed for public consumption. Theres a lot of crazy stuff that happened in my family that I really didnt want to be aired on TV, Angle admitted. The director didnt flinch, insisting, I want everything or I dont want nothing at all.
Angle stood his ground, proposing a movie instead. I said, How about we just make a movie? He said, No, its either a TV show or Im not doing anything. That was the dealbreaker for Angle, who had to walk away. I was like, Well, Im sorry man. I respect the heck out of you, but I cant do a TV show then. Ill try to find someone else who will do a movie, he said.
Now, Angle is on track to share his story in a way that respects his familys wishes while giving fans a deep dive into the moments that made him a wrestling legend.
