Former WWE executive Linda McMahon has just been nominated by Donald Trump to become the next U.S. Secretary of Education.
The news, first reported by CNN, is sending shockwaves across political circles and wrestling arenas alike. But theres a catchMcMahons appointment still needs a nod from the Senate, where Republicans hold the majority following the 2024 election.
McMahons resume is already stacked with political experience. She served as head of the Small Business Administration during Trumps first term, stepping down in 2019 to spearhead the pro-Trump America First Action super PAC. If thats not dedication, what is? Not to mention, she was one of Trumps top donors during his latest campaign, shelling out a jaw-dropping $20 million to the Make America Great Again Inc. super PAC and nearly $1 million to Trumps campaign and related committees. Now, shes back in the spotlight as co-chair of Trumps presidential transition team after his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Its worth noting that McMahons education chops include a brief stint on the Connecticut State Board of Education in 2009, though she is better known for her two failed Senate bids in 2010 and 2012. If confirmed, McMahon would follow in the footsteps of Betsy DeVos, who held the post for most of Trumps first presidency.
In a twist that could stir some controversy, Linda and Vince McMahon, along with WWE, were named as defendants in an ongoing lawsuit filed in October on behalf of surviving ring boys alleging sexual abuse. The nomination comes with its share of baggage, but its clear Trump is standing by his longtime ally.
