Konnans health has always been a topic of discussion among many fans, as he had been dealing with kidney issues last year. It was then revealed that he was hospitalized for a long time due to diverticulitis, and now Konnan has shared details about his recent health crisis.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Konnan had been hospitalized for over 26 days due to diverticulitis andother health complications, and no further details were given about his health status.
While speaking on his K100 podcast, Konnan finally talked about his recent health episode. Konnan noted that about a month ago, he went to Miami for promotional work with Triple A on Univision, which is the biggest Latino network in the U.S. While he was there, he had trouble going to the bathroom for three days. When he got home, he asked his wife for something for constipation because hed never experienced it before. She gave him prune juice, and he ended up having a lot of stomach issues, but still couldnt urinate. Soon, he started shaking and feeling worse, so he was taken to the hospital. There, doctors diagnosed him with diverticulitis, which is an infection caused by bacteria in the stomach. The bacteria had spread to his brain, causing swelling.
While in the ambulance, Konnan fell and hit his head, getting a big bump and injuring his leg. His condition worsened, and he suffered cognitive damage. He couldnt talk, couldnt open his eyes, and couldnt remember anything. For about 15 days, he was in ICU, unable to understand where he was or even remember simple things. He was hallucinating as well.
Konnan noted that he had an MRI done, which was very uncomfortable, but luckily there was no brain damage from wrestling or the bump he took. Still, he was worried about his brain since he couldnt remember anything. After the MRI, doctors said he needed to go to a rehab center for a few days before he could go home.
When he arrived at the rehab center, it felt very depressing, like a retirement home. He had three roommates, one of whom sounded like he was dying, another had the TV on too loud, and the last one snored loudly. Konnan was uncomfortable, and his wife, Stacy, wanted to take him out of there, but the doctors said he had to stay for a little longer. Unfortunately, while he was there, they gave him a medication that made his condition worse. He started trembling uncontrollably, and Stacy got very concerned. When she checked the medication, she found it wasnt right for him, so they rushed him to another hospital.
At the new hospital, they immediately took Konnan to the ICU, where doctors worked hard to save his life. His condition was very serious, and there were many times he felt close to losing his life or having permanent brain damage. During this time, he couldnt eat on his own and had to be fed like a baby. The antibiotics he was given also had side effects, including causing him to lose control of his bowels, and staff had to clean him up. Konnan describes feeling extremely humiliated by the situation, but hes grateful to have made it through.
This was certainly a harrowing experience for Konnan and fans are simply glad that he is healthier than before and managed to get out of the hospital. While Konnan isnt fully out of the woods yet, Konnan still has more resting to do but he is stronger than before and thats all he could ask for.
