In order to try to play every chance of participating in the next Ryder Cup, the 2025 one scheduled in the United States, in Bethpage (New York), Sergio Garcia has formally requested to return to register with the DP World Tour and decided to pay over a million euros in fines imposed on him at the time by the top European men's circuit for his millionaire move to LIV Golf, the Arab Super League, whose tournaments are not yet recognized by the Official World Golf Ranking.

The problems, which arose in 2022, led 'El Nino', record holder for points scored in the history of the Ryder Cup, to skip the big event in 2023 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio (Rome), where the Europe team led by Luke Donald defeated the USA of Zach Johnson. Now the armistice, with Garcia dreaming of emulating Nick Faldo and Lee Westwood (who hold the European record for participations, 11) and getting closer to the American Phil Mickelson (record holder with 12).
Sergio Garca Fernndez is a Spanish golfer.
Nicknamed El Nio (the child) and a professional since 1999, he is a member of the PGA Tour and the European Tour. After his victory at the 2008 HSBC Champions he reached the position of No. 2 in the world behind Tiger Woods, and is currently No. 128 in the world. In 2016 he managed to crown his ninth victory on the PGA Tour, winning the AT&T Byron Nelson. In 2017 he won the Augusta Masters after an extraordinary duel with the Englishman Justin Rose, which ended in a play-off.

He began playing golf at the age of 3 at the "Club de Campo del Mediterrneo", where his father Victor was a teacher. At 12 he was already champion of his club, four years later he became the youngest player to make the cut in a European Tour event, in the Turespaa Open Mediterranea in 1995. This record was broken by amateur Jason Hark in the UBS Hong Kong Open. In the same year Garca became the youngest player to win the European Amateur Championship. In his amateur career he won everything: from the Topolino World Junior Championship (1994), to the European Championship (1995), to the British Amateur (1998).
He turned professional in 1999 after winning the title of best amateur at the Augusta Masters, having reached a handicap of +5.4 and an average in official match-play of 32 wins and only one defeat. In his first year as a pro, he immediately made his mark with a spectacular head-to-head with Tiger Woods at the 1999 PGA Championship, where he showed off his most famous shot: an intentional slice from behind a tree with the ball ending up on the green and Garca running and jumping to see it land. Garca has always been one of the strongest players from tee to green, with a very distinctive swing. He is one of the pillars of the European Ryder Cup team, in which he has 6 victories (2002, 2004, 2006, 2012, 2014, 2018) in 9 appearances and set the record for the youngest participant in the tournament (in the 1999 edition).
