Joel Embiid is not happy with the information that is being leaked out of the 76ers locker room and wants to find the source.
76ers veteran Kyle Lowry called a player and team meeting, where Maxey challenged Embiid to be on time to team activities, calling out the 2022-23 league MVP about being late for everything and how it impacts the locker room, from other players to the coaching staff, sources briefed on the meeting told ESPN, Shams reported earlier this week.
Embiid has since publicly reacted to the supposed snitch in the locker room.
Whoever leaked that is a real piece of sh*t. But even then, we talked about a lot of things. I dont want to get into the details, but that whole thing probably took 30 seconds, Embiid said.
He also says that he wasnt as late as often as the report makes him out to be, while commenting on his relationship with Maxey.
Thats the relationship we have, Embiid said. Nothing malicious. I like when people are telling me what Im not doing good, what I need to do better. Even though that part [the tardiness] maybe happened once or twice, when I wasnt playing.
NBA insider Jake Fischer has since shed further light on the situation and said that Embiid is reportedly snuffing out the snitch.
So when ESPN reported details on Tuesday morning, from inside the 76ers team meeting following Monday nights blown lead in Miami, one league figure close to Philadelphias All-Star center told me: Joel is going to be furious. And that Embiid was going to try and find the Sixers supposed snitch.
Come Wednesday, after the Sixers dropped to 2-12 with a 117-111 loss at Memphis, Embiid indeed informed reporters: Whoever leaked that is a real piece of sh*t. Several NBA team officials with Sixers ties took that as public messaging intended for private relationships.
