In a recent interview on the TV show Verissimo broadcast by Italian Canale 5, Camila had previously said: "I've wanted to quit for years, the life of a tennis player is hard. I put it off for a long time, then, in May, one morning I decided, I told my father. He was happy, he's always been on my side. It's not true that he's a domineering father, he's very understanding and we've always gotten along very well."

The now former Italian player had explained in the same interview that she never ran away from Italy for financial reasons, denying any involvement of her father in the affair.
"I didn't disappear. I had notified the WTA. I wanted to make an announcement in Paris and everything was organized, but the news of my retirement came out when they saw the list of tennis players subjected to doping tests. They started saying that I had disappeared, but it wasn't true. For years I wanted to have a different life, because being a tennis player is very demanding. I had already spent months without playing a couple of times, but I always felt the desire to do it again. One morning I woke up and said enough. I told my father and he was very happy. He has always supported me in everything, he is an incredible person.

I lived both in Italy and in the United States. I had never made a definitive decision like I have now. It wasn't an escape, I was surprised by the news published. I just moved to America. I never ran away. My family, including my father, was not aware of this situation. The problems were created by external people who managed me. They had to solve everything. I was not aware of it. We weren't scared, but we changed all the people who manage the financial side. My father was just my coach: that was always his job," she explained.
