AEW Full Gear 2024 finally arrived, and fans packed the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Interestingly enough, this is the sixth Full Gear event, but also the second to take place in this venue after their 2022 show. They had a lot of things prepared for fans, including Bobby Lashleys first-ever AEW pay-per-view appearance.
The All Mighty Bobby Lashley showcased a ton of power in this match, as expected. Swerve Strickland didnt let the size, or numbers, disadvantage in this match affect him, as he continued to fight on. After trying to interfere in the match, Shelton Benjamin was ejected from ringside. The finish came after Bobby Lashley finally took control after Swerve had a flurry of offense. Then Lashley latched on the Hurt Lock and the referee called for the bell.
This match was second to last on the Full Gear 2024 card. Swerve Strickland also received an impressive amount of pyro during his entrance. WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross also joined the commentary team for the final two matches on the card, including this one.
Bobby Lashleys AEW debut was expected during the October 30 episode of AEW Dynamite after MVP showed up at Grand Slam 2024 and Shelton Benjamin joined the company. It didnt take him very long at all to start a rivalry with Swerve Strickland.
This was a big match for Strickland and Lashley. While the Almighty was making his AEW pay-per-view debut, it was not his first actual match for AEW, as he won a handicap match during the November 20 episode of Dynamite.
Swerve was looking to regain his footing after losing the AEW World Title to Bryan Danielson at All In 2024 and suffering a devastating unsanctioned match against Hangman Page at All Out 2024.
