Patrick Mouratoglou - through his Instagram account - shared an interesting retrospective on the duality between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Serena Williams' former coach clarified the aspects of the young Spaniard's tennis, underlining how the 4-time Grand Slam champion is stronger than his Italian rival, when he is at his best.

"Alcaraz is able to create more. He has extra power in his shots and he can counter him in terms of movement. The fact is that Alcaraz currently makes quite a lot of unforced errors; Sinner doesn't. So the matches between them have a lot of ups and downs and change often.
When Alcaraz plays at his best, I think he is capable of being better than Sinner. But he can't play at a certain level for a whole match. Sinner, on the other hand, is consistent. He can hit a winner in every single point. These are my feelings. You can never relax against Sinner, you are always in danger," explained Mouratoglou.
2024 was the year of the Spaniard and the Italian, in any case. Carlitos and Jannik split the four Slams and showed that they are now superior to most of the players on Tour (with the exception of Novak Djokovic, who seemed a distant relative of the version admired in 2023, perhaps due to physical and motivational problems). Alcaraz won the French Open and Wimbledon Championships, Sinner the Australian Open, the US Open and the ATP Finals.

Jannik closed the season with 73 wins and 6 losses, three of which against Alcaraz, in three matches played against the Spanish rival. The 23-year-old won eight titles in total, including three ATP Masters 1000, accumulating a clear advantage in the rankings. Suffice it to say that he has 3915 points more than Alexander Zverev, currently stuck in second place.
Alcaraz played also the final of Paris Olympics, losing against Novak Djokovic, eventual winner of the gold medal. The Spaniard won - as I said above - all the three matches played against the Italian (BNP Paribas Open, French Open and China Open), defeating his rival on outddor hard-courts and on clay-courts. In the H2H, Carlitos leads 6-4.
