New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill will miss the rest of the season with the knee injury he suffered Sunday, tests conducted Monday confirmed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Hill appeared to take a helmet to his left knee while running for a first down late in the 21-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. His knee bent back awkwardly as he fell to the ground, and he remained down as athletic trainers attended to him.
Teammates and several Rams players knelt on the ground as trainers tested Hill's leg before calling for a cart. Hill got on the cart as the crowd chanted his name, and he waved to the fans before being driven off the field.
"I love how our fans treated him," quarterback Derek Carr said of the cheers for Hill. "I would expect nothing less from our fans."
Hill led the team with five catches for 37 yards and carried the ball five times for 10 yards before his injury.
He left a Week 2 game against the Cowboys and was transported to a Dallas-area hospital. He missed the next game and then returned to play a half against the Atlanta Falcons before leaving again. He missed the next three games before returning in Week 8.
Hill has dealt with a reported bruised lung and has also played with cracked ribs this season.
He finishes the season, his seventh with the Saints, with 187 yards receiving, 278 yards rushing and six rushing touchdowns.
