Penge was fined �2,000 (which is not a huge fine) and banned for three months. The 26-year-old golfer took responsibility via social media, pointing out that he bet on the majors and the Ryder Cup. Although the Englishman admits that he played purely for the fun factor, the consequences are the same regardless of the purpose of his betting. The young golfer stresses that he did not know the rules, believing that only those who bet on themselves are fined.
"All of my bets were positive bets (meaning betting on someone to win rather than lose) and a majority of them were in the Majors and Ryder Cup," Penge said, as quoted by Golf Monthly.

I genuinely thought it was OK to bet on golf as long as it wasn't on myself or tournaments I was competing in."- he said.
After analyzing the rules, he realized he had broken the rules. Penge had a hard time accepting that, but this will be an important lesson for him in the future. The 26-year-old also pointed out that he made a mistake, taking responsibility. A young golfer does not want to make identical mistakes in the future, aware of the consequences that could follow.
"This was all a genuine and honest mistake that I have taken full responsibility for and I will never ever make the same mistake again," Penge concluded.
The Englishman was ultimately lucky, considering that the consequences could have been greater.
