Its the end of an era for AEW Rampage. During the December 22 AEW Dynamite tapings at the Hammerstein Ballroom, Tony Khan announced that AEW would be taping the last episode of Rampage for the foreseeable future. The final episode is set to air on December 27.
The news marks the conclusion of a show that debuted on August 13, 2021, as AEWs second weekly program on TNT. Rampage made an immediate impact with its premiere episode, where Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega to win the TNA/IMPACT Championship. Just one week later, Rampage delivered one of wrestlings most iconic momentsCM Punks return to the ringwhich drew a record 1.126 million viewers, making it the highest-rated episode in the shows history.
Despite its strong start, Rampage faced challenges as it aired in a tough time slot at 10 p.m. ET, often preempted by NBA, NHL, and March Madness coverage.
With Rampage stepping aside, it remains unclear whats next for AEWs programming lineup. Fans are left wondering if this is a temporary pause or the end of the shows run altogether.
