WWE legend The Godfather, real name Charles Wright, has officially left the squared circle behind and is living life at a more laid-back pace.
During a recent appearance on the Poddin Aint Easy podcast, the Hall of Famer shared that hes no longer keeping up with the wrestling worldbut not out of disrespect.
Unfortunately, I respect the business. Have love for the business. Met a lot of good people in this business, and I hope all these young cats are making money, Wright explained. However, he confessed, I dont watch wrestling anymore. I dont watch much TV.
Instead, The Godfather is diving headfirst into his love for country music and the hit series Yellowstone. I watch the Yellowstone series. I used to watch Street Outlaws, and every now and then, Ill put on old cowboy movies, Wright said, noting his preference for classic black-and-white Westerns. The nostalgia stems from his childhood and his connection with his 93-year-old father, who still enjoys those same films every day.
Sports, it seems, dont hold much sway for Wright anymore, either. Ive lost a lot of interestmaybe because I dont bet, he joked. But I dont watch football. Ill catch a little bit, but I dont watch SportsCenter.
Despite stepping away from the wrestling scene, The Godfather isnt bitter about the industry. Im glad that theres places for these guys to make money, he said, showing his support for the current generation of talent.
These days, Wright keeps busy managing Cheetahs strip club in Las Vegas, finding solace in the simplicity of his post-wrestling life.
Whether its classic Westerns, Yellowstone, or running the show at Cheetahs, The Godfather has traded body slams for a slower-paced lifeand hes loving every second of it. While he may not tune in to watch the current wrestling scene, his respect for the business and support for todays stars shows hes still got love for the ring, even from a distance.
