Matt and Nick Jackson held the AEW Tag Team Titles for a long time until they dropped it to Private Party on the October 30 episode of AEW Dynamite. Interestingly enough, Private Party wasnt supposed to win the titles at first as The Young Bucks have now revealed the original plans for them dropping the AEW Tag Team Titles.
While speaking to Social Suplex Podcast Network, The Young Bucks revealed that the plans for them losing the AEW Tag Team Titles changed many times during their last title run. Originally, they were supposed to drop the titles months earlier, but the creative plans changed four or five times in the last six months. At first, they were going to lose the belts to one team, then the plan shifted to another team.
They noted that Private Party approached them about wanting a long-term program, but at that time, Tony Khan had already planned a different direction for the storyline. Eventually, plans shifted again, leading to a match with Private Party at the WrestleDream pay-per-view in Seattle. The match was a huge success, and backstage, Tony Khan and the Young Bucks realized they had something special and this led to yet another pivot in the creative plans.
This was the fourth time the title plans changed, but the Young Bucks were happy with the result. It gave Private Party a chance to shine, and after five years in AEW, they felt the team was ready for a big moment.
Thankfully, things truly worked out in the end for Private Party and thats all that matters to them. As for The Young Bucks, they will be competing for the IWGP Tag Team Titles at Wrestle Dynasty next year, so well have to see how that will turn out for them.
